Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Pickd (“Pickd,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Pickd mobile app. By using Pickd, you agree to the practices described here.

Who we are

Pickd is a daily social opinion app for iOS. Each day everyone answers the same five binary “this or that” cards, then sees global results and how their friends answered.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address (via Apple Sign In, Google Sign In, or email/password), your chosen username, and display name. If you sign in with Apple using “Hide My Email,” we only receive Apple’s private relay address.
• Your activity. Your daily picks, completion history, and streak. With each day’s picks we also store how they were made: how long each pick took, whether you changed a pick before locking in, how many times you looked at each card, and your time zone offset from UTC (so times read right for you). We also keep a record of how you moved through the five before locking in: which card was on screen and for how long, picks, skips, going back to a card, changes made from the lock-in screen, and when the app was closed or left mid-play. Nothing outside the five cards and the lock-in screen is recorded. That detail is private to you, feeds your own stats, and is otherwise used only in anonymous totals across all players (for example, “the card people took longest over”); friends never see it.
• Social connections. The friends you add, friend requests you send or receive, people you block, and reports you file about a person or a card.
• Cards you make. If you submit a card idea, we store the text you provide and your authorship for attribution. Cards you make to ask your friends, where offered, are stored with your account and shown to your friends.
• Device & notifications. A push notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send you reminders and friend alerts, if you allow notifications.
• Purchases. If a paid plan (Pickd+) is offered and you subscribe, Apple processes the payment and we receive only your subscription status and Apple’s transaction identifiers so we can unlock the features you paid for. We never see your payment details.

You can play Pickd without creating an account. We still receive your daily picks so they can count toward the global results, held under an anonymous identifier that is not linked to your name or email; your streak stays on your device. If you later create an account, that history carries over to it.

How we use your information

• To provide the daily game, calculate global results, and show you your streak and history.
• To let you add friends and see each other’s picks.
• To show you what your picks say about you: your type, your traits, how often you side with the crowd, and how alike you are with your friends. These are calculated from your picks, everyone’s vote totals, and (for friends) the picks of friends who have added you back. They are shown only to you.
• To send notifications you’ve opted into (friend requests, streak reminders, when your submitted card runs).
• To compute Pickd+ insights, when Pickd+ is offered and you subscribe. Your picks, how you made them, the cards they were on, and the day’s vote totals are used to describe your taste and to compare your picks with friends who have added you back, on cards you both answered. Some of those descriptions are written by an AI model run by a service provider (see below).
• To review and improve content, and to keep the service safe.

What we share

We do not sell your personal information. Your username, display name, and daily picks are visible to friends you have added. Aggregate, anonymized results (how everyone voted) are shown to all users and cannot identify you individually.

Service providers

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Messaging) and Apple/Google sign-in to operate the app. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.

We use Anthropic’s Claude model, through its API, to screen the text of user-submitted card ideas for safety before a person reviews them. If Pickd+ is offered and you subscribe, its AI-written insights also use Anthropic: we send the text of cards, which options were chosen, and figures worked out from them; when an insight compares you with a friend, it includes that friend’s picks on those cards and first name. We never send email addresses, passwords, usernames, or anything outside Pickd. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf and does not use it to train its models. Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics; the only third-party code that runs in it is Firebase (Google) and Apple/Google sign-in, listed above.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the in-app Profile → Settings screen, which permanently removes your profile and associated data and, if you signed in with Apple, revokes Pickd’s Sign in with Apple access. You can also email us to request deletion.

Children

Pickd is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Security

We use industry-standard measures, including Firebase’s managed infrastructure and access rules, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when we do.
